The Distant War

It's hard to get people amped up about the war anymore. The media is basically not covering it because Bush is out of office. Nothing has hit our shores for eight years because Bush was in office. Obama's apparent tack on the war effort is simply not to address it at all, save that we will be pulling troops out and, perhaps, making soldiers pay for their own battle wounds.

The economy tops the news now and the war, including the sacrifice of our youngest and best on a daily basis, doesn't interest the country anymore. It almost makes it difficult to go partake. ALMOST, I say, because of so many people that I know who have taken the time to offer good wishes, prayers, help for my family, etc. In a way, I pray the war remains distant - but not so distant that we forget the men and women who have gone, and continue to go forward to defend this country.

If they don't go "over there," the enemy will certainly make their way "over here."  So, I am hoping nothing here spawns a reason why we should re-focus on the war. It's a difficult balance, but I pray we remain at peace on our shores while able to distract ourselves, if only for a moment each day, to offer a prayer for our troops "over there."
