Not a great topic to draw an audience, I suppose, but suicides are on the rise in the military. Not all of them are combat-related, but many are. We are caught in a quandry that is difficult to solve, especially in the moral and theological vacuum in which we find ourselves today. With all of the stress soldiers face, both at home and on the war-front, we have to ask the question, "Why?" Why, exactly should they continue life, when there is nothing good to hold out to them, nothing lasting beyond it toward which to point?
In kicking God out of society, we have lost a vision of Heaven. And if there is no Heaven, or no clear vision of it, then why live any longer when life gets tough, when we feel unable to cope? We are dressing grievous wounds lightly, it seems, when we speak to the hopeless of hope for this life only. Our society has truly broken the back of hope.
Did I mention that I love soldiers? If you want to see why, catch it HERE. The way they can take on the stresses and sorrows of a nation - and a nation that is more concerned with whether or not they'll keep their pensions, their boats and their platinum cards, at that - and yet still act like kids. We have the greatest soldiers in the world - the most disciplined, most compassionate, most deadly. They bear so much for us - sometimes they sacrifice it all to do so. They deserve a hope better than even a good economy can provide. I am privileged to serve them, and to be in a position to point them to that better hope.
