Home Free

Well, home is in our sights. While no one (well, no one sane) truly likes to be deployed, I do have to say that this has been a rather awesome tour. Everyone, I believe, enjoys feeling like they are doing exactly what it is they were created to do in life. If you haven't yet found it, you may not know what I mean - and I pray you do, soon. I feel as if I've been exactly where I am supposed to have been, doing exactly what I was created to do for the past 11 months or so. I have missed my family greatly, but have truly felt blessed to be in Afghanistan with the people I deployed with, and among the people I deployed to serve.

After today's Transfer of Authority ceremony, the weights came off of the shoulders. (I will get a massage for those shoulders tomorrow!) From preaching at Chapel NeXt to flying all over Afghanistan ministering to soldiers even to being privileged to honor our fallen on four occasions, this has been a place of growth, challenge, honor and filfillment. Only God could orchestrate something such an unlikely place of blessing.

To those who have prayed for me and/or sent encouraging notes, thank you! I may have another blog or two in me before I have to change the whole blog layout again, given my soon return home. Just remember: When God takes you into the wilderness, into those seemingly dangerous, forsaken places, there is ample blessing to offset the difficulties. I pray you won't have too safe or secure a life in this world - it impedes one's focus on the things that are eternally important and diminishes His voice in your life.

Only days now until I have my Cheri in my arms and my kids clamoring about me for hugs, wrestling matches and long, Daddy-talks.

In His grip, Chris
